The ocean blues and whites of sand were the inspiration for the color palate of this family beach house. The underlying color scheme is shades of tan and white which make for a clean slate. Shades of blue are found throughout the home carrying the colors of the ocean and sky into the home.
Walk into the foyer to find cream and white large format tile on the floors, clean walls, and plenty of shades of light wood in our furniture selection. 2 bedrooms and 1 full bath are on the 1st floor. Each bedroom has its own vibe but both stick with shades of pastels. The first bedroom designed for the client's daughter was painted ombre using light pink, light purple, and light blue to create a girly dream like atmosphere. A light purple carpet was selected to match the wall colors. Light wood on the dresser & linen on the headboard keep the softness of the room. The 2nd bedroom; a guest bedroom, was painted a light blue but has a liveliness due to incorporating the color orange. The floors in this room were replaced with a light wood and window coverings that are shades of blue and orange were designed to pop off the light walls.
The main living space on the 2nd floor has the living room, kitchen, and dining area and stands out with a light blue ceiling and decor to match - light blue and light green glass vases, blue pillows, and rugs. Since we stuck with the original hardwoods and opted not to change them, the use of cream, white, and blue brightens the rooms. You will also find pieces made of shell - more inspiration coming from the beaches. The original home was designed with an overwhelming amount of shades of brown, gold, and tan which made it feel heavier than we would prefer a beach house to be. We feel that a beach house should be light, bright, and fresh.
On the 3rd floor is the master bedroom and one additional bedroom both done in shades of whites and blues. In the master, we replaced the warm gold tone hardwood with white washed wood. This choice was an extra expense but one we thought to be worth while due to accentuating the mass amount of light coming in from the windows. The washed floor brightens the room even more and makes for a beachy heaven each time you wake up in the morning. A whicker 4 post bed, armoires, and dresser were all chosen to create texture and to bring the golden warmth that you find in the downstairs floor into the upstairs just a bit. We opted to a sky blue on the vaulted ceilings to create the etherial feeling of being outside. Hints of blues and greens are found in the sitting area, rugs, and in the pillows. White walls, curtains, and bed spread ground the room and create a fresh feel. In the additional bedroom on the third floor an extra window was added to showcase the beautiful ocean views. We stick with the theme of painted ceilings for added color and interest with a navy ceiling. Whites and blues gleam in the bright beach light. Whicker was added in our window coverings - connecting this room to the rest of the home.
